But I've Already got an Online Store.
Or maybe a friend has said that they can "knock
one together in a few days. I'll bet that the procedure for buying from
this store goes something like this: -
|
 |
- You navigate from the home page to a list of sections complete with photos
scanned directly from your brochure, still with the original background
intact.
- The product may be described or it may be assumed that the person doing
the browsing is knowledgeable enough to know the exact application of the
product.
- The customer then has to memorise or write down the product reference.
- The customer is taken via a link to an "order form".
- They then type the product IDs in as well as the make and model of the
car - the customer at that point has little idea of whether the part or
goods they are ordering will be in stock.
- The customer will then be directed to a table which gives shipping charges
for specific weights or quantities.
- After working these out they then have to add VAT on.
- The customer is then told that they may type their credit card details
in and then submit the form but that this method is not safe.
- As an alternative the customer is told that they may post or fax the completed
order form and send payment separately.
The customer may now well have decided that it easier to phone the company,
so incurring the administrative costs that the company was trying to avoid
or, worse still, the customer may decide to go an alternative web site as
detailed below.
How a Store Should be Arranged
This is a description of a store
as we would want to create it.
- The customer is presented with a list of logically defined sections and
subsections.
- They may choose to search directly for the particular product description.
- Once they have arrived at the relevant product they are presented with
a clear image as well as any necessary description.
- They may then choose from a specific model, garment size etc.
- They know this garment will be in stock or available shortly because the
catalogue is easy to update.
- When they click on the product it is automatically added to a "virtual
shopping basket".
- They then continue shopping until they are ready to "checkout".
- All the goods that they have purchased are displayed and they are given
the option to remove any they do not want. Once they have chosen their country
and desired method of postage. The total amount, including nay relevant
sales tax is calculated automatically.
- They then fill their details out using a secure form.
- You receive the customer address and payment details or the credit card
details may be processed by a third party, leaving you to simply dispatch
the goods!
